Tara - General
The Tara mine in Ireland is Europe's largest zinc mine. The mine supplies part of its zinc concentrates to the smelters in Kokkola, Finland and Odda, Norway through the marketing organisation Boliden Commercial.
Tara has achieved certifications according ISO 14001 (environment and energy) and OHSAS 18001 (health and safety management).
Some 2.7 million tonnes of ore are mined annually, which yield zinc and lead concentrates containing up to 200,000 tonnes of zinc and 40,000 tonnes of lead metal.
